On December 19, Moscow hosted the award ceremony for the winners of the Future Technologies Award "Challenge". The Scientific Committee of the award, led by Doctor of Physico-Mathematical Sciences Artyom Oganov, reviewed 218 applications from Russian researchers, from which it selected the winners in four categories: "Perspective" (a scientific achievement that influenced the dynamics of future technology development), "Engineering solution" (an invention that significantly advanced a particular technology), "Breakthrough" (scientific research that paved the way for the creation of future technologies) and "Scientist of the Year" (personal contribution to the creation of future technologies and changing the landscape of science). The winner in each nomination received 10 million rubles, and a recording of the broadcast is available on the award's website.
Ilya Semerikov, Candidate of Physico-Mathematical Sciences, from the Lebedev Russian Quantum Center and the Lebedev Institute of Physics, received the prize in the "Perspective" nomination for creating an ion quantum computer. The winner in the Engineering Solution nomination was Hamlet Hodjibaghiyan, Candidate of Physico-Mathematical Sciences, from the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research for the development and production of magnets from high-temperature superconductors. The Breakthrough Prize was awarded to Professor Pavlos Lagoudakis from Skoltech for the development of polariton physics and the development of a polariton transistor. Candidate of Medical Sciences Raul Gainetdinov from St. Petersburg State University, one of the largest specialists in dopamine receptors and trace amines, became the winner of the award in the "Scientist of the Year" nomination. His research may help in the development of new drugs for the treatment of depression and other diseases.
